Custom QR codes: common questions

What does a custom QR code mean?+

A custom QR code is one where the visual style has been changed from the default black-and-white grid. This includes changing the dot shape (round, diamond, etc.), the corner style, the colors, and adding a centre logo. The data and scan behavior are identical to a plain QR, only the appearance differs.

Does customizing a QR code make it harder to scan?+

Not if done correctly. The biggest risk factors are low contrast (too similar a dot and background color), an oversized logo (over 25% of the QR area), and overly complex dot shapes in small print. Use high contrast, keep the logo under 20%, and test scan the result on two or three phones before printing at scale.

Can I use a custom QR code on packaging?+

Yes. Download the SVG format for vector-quality output that scales without pixelation. At 2cm to 5cm printed size, a well-designed custom QR scans reliably from every angle in normal lighting. Test with the cheapest phone you expect customers to use.

What is the difference between a custom QR and a branded QR?+

They mean the same thing in common usage. A branded QR has the company colors and logo. A custom QR is any QR where the visual design was intentionally modified. Both are available on QRSprint free with the designer at /qr/custom.

Can I make a custom dynamic QR code?+

Yes. In the designer, turn on the Dynamic toggle before downloading. Your custom visual design is preserved in the QR pattern, but the destination is editable and tracked from the dashboard.

Are custom QR codes free?+

The designer and all visual customization, dot shapes, colors, logo upload, are free. Dynamic QR with analytics and higher limits requires a paid plan. See the pricing page for current tiers.
