Security QR

Security QR Code:
the smart tag that brings your things back.

A Bluetooth tracker tells you where your bag is within 100 metres. A Security QR gets it back from the airport lost-and-found in another country, without exposing your real phone number.

The problem with a regular lost-and-found label

Most people put a paper label in their luggage with their name and phone number. Three problems:

  1. Your real number is exposed. Whoever finds the bag (or finds the label before you do) now has your number. Depending on where you travel, that can mean unsolicited calls or messages long after the incident.
  2. No record that the bag was found. If someone scans a QR, you get a notification with approximate location and time. A paper label generates nothing.
  3. No way to communicate without a call. A text or an in-app message is often easier than a live call, especially across time zones or language barriers.

How a Security QR tag fixes this

The QRSprint Security QR tag works like this:

  1. You generate a tag for your item (luggage, keys, bag) and attach the printed QR as a label or sticker.
  2. Someone finds your item and scans the QR with any smartphone camera.
  3. They see a contact page that says the item's name (e.g. "Blue carry-on, Paris trip") and a "Contact owner" button.
  4. Tapping the button initiates an in-app call to your QRSprint app. Your real phone number is never shown.
  5. You receive the call in the app, see what was scanned and when, and decide whether to answer.
  6. If you miss the call, the scan is still logged in your inbox. The finder can leave a text message.

What to put a Security QR tag on

Luggage and carry-ons
Most-lost items in airports. QR works even in another country.
Laptop and camera bags
High value. Label inside the bag survives if external tags are removed.
Keys
Print on a small laminated card or use a keychain sleeve.
Wallets
Slip a folded QR card inside. First thing a good samaritan checks.
Pet collars
QR collar tag is a backup if the microchip reader is not available.
Children's bags
Emergency contact without putting a phone number on the bag.

Security QR vs Bluetooth trackers

AirTag, Samsung SmartTag, and Tile solve a different problem from a Security QR tag. Here is when each makes sense:

ScenarioBluetooth trackerSecurity QR
Bag left at nearby cafeExcellent (precise location)Good (scan alert)
Luggage lost at airport overseasLimited (Bluetooth range / Apple network density)Excellent (scan anywhere)
Keys in a dense urban areaExcellentGood if someone finds and scans
Pet in a rural areaPoor (no Bluetooth crowd)Excellent (anyone with a phone)
Privacy (no number exposed)Not applicableFully private relay

The two tools complement each other. Use a Bluetooth tracker for active location and a Security QR for passive recovery by strangers. Many travellers use both on checked luggage.

How to set up your Security QR tag

  1. Download the QRSprint app and create an account.
  2. Tap "Create Tag" and choose a tag type: Luggage, Keys, Bag, Pet, or Anything.
  3. Give the tag a name that is specific enough to identify the item ("Black Samsonite checked bag").
  4. Optionally add a note visible to the finder ("Please call me, I am usually reachable 8am-10pm GMT+5:30").
  5. Download or print the QR and attach it to the item. Laminated cards, adhesive stickers, and sleeve labels all work.
  6. Enable scan alerts so you get a push notification the instant anyone scans the tag.

Frequently asked questions

Does the finder need to install an app?

No. They scan with any camera and see a web page. The QRSprint app is only needed on your side.

Is a Security QR tag better than a phone number label?

For privacy and recovery rate, yes. You get a scan notification (even if the finder does not contact you), your real number stays private, and there is a message option for cross-timezone or cross-language situations.

What if my phone is off when they scan?

The scan is logged. The finder can leave a message. You see both in the app when you next open it.
