What is a Security QR tag?

A Security QR tag is a physical sticker or label with a QR code that links to a contact page. When someone finds your lost item and scans the QR, they see a contact page where they can call you or send a message. The key difference from a standard QR with a phone number: the owner's real phone number is never exposed. Contact goes through the QRSprint relay, so you can receive calls and messages without revealing your identity until you choose to.

How is a Security QR different from a regular lost-and-found tag?

A regular lost-and-found tag with a phone number exposes your real number to whoever finds the item. That number can then be called, texted, or shared with anyone. A Security QR tag shows a contact page with no visible phone number. The finder initiates contact through an in-app call or message. You receive the call in the QRSprint app and see what they scanned and where before you answer. You decide whether to respond.

What can I put a Security QR tag on?

Does the finder need to install an app to contact me?

No. The finder scans the QR with any smartphone camera, no app needed. The scan opens a web page where they see your tag's name (e.g. 'Blue suitcase') and a contact button. Tapping the button initiates an in-app call directly to your QRSprint app. The finder does not need to download anything; the call route is entirely web-based on their side.

What happens if my phone is off when someone scans the tag?

If the call is missed, the scan still creates an inbox notification in your QRSprint app visible when you next open it. The finder can also leave a text message on the contact page. You can set a custom message for missed calls (e.g. 'If I missed your call, please leave a message and I will get back to you within an hour'). The scan event is logged with approximate location, device type, and time, so you know someone found the item even if the call was not answered.

Is a Security QR tag better than an AirTag or Bluetooth tracker?

They solve different problems. An AirTag (or Samsung SmartTag, Tile) lets you locate an item actively via Bluetooth crowd-sourcing, which is ideal for items within roughly 100 metres. A Security QR tag does not track location but enables a stranger who finds the item to contact you directly, even internationally, even without Bluetooth or an Apple/Samsung device. They complement each other: an AirTag tells you where your bag is in the airport; a Security QR gets your bag back if someone found it in a lost luggage office 1,000 km away.

The problem with a regular lost-and-found label

Most people put a paper label in their luggage with their name and phone number. Three problems:

Your real number is exposed. Whoever finds the bag (or finds the label before you do) now has your number. Depending on where you travel, that can mean unsolicited calls or messages long after the incident.
No record that the bag was found. If someone scans a QR, you get a notification with approximate location and time. A paper label generates nothing.
No way to communicate without a call. A text or an in-app message is often easier than a live call, especially across time zones or language barriers.

How a Security QR tag fixes this

How to set up your Security QR tag

Download the QRSprint app and create an account.
Tap "Create Tag" and choose a tag type: Luggage, Keys, Bag, Pet, or Anything.
Give the tag a name that is specific enough to identify the item ("Black Samsonite checked bag").
